I have a confession to make. This DIY tutorial isn’t the most original. There are tons of rope basket/ coaster tutorials etc on Pinterest already. Why am I still featuring this then? Well, all those other DIYs call for a glue gun and if, like me, you don’t have one and are too skint to buy one, here’s a rope project you can still try. I’d say it’s also a lot easier because you don’t have to worry about burning yourself with the hot glue and it’s a great way to makeover all those old glass bottles whose labels won’t quite come off, even in the dishwasher. (You can also soak them in oil and then rub off the labels but that is really time consuming…)
What you need
An old glass bottle
Optional: Scrap paper to work on
Apply glue liberally all over the bottle. Choose a glue that doesn’t dry too fast so you can take your time winding the rope around. Align the end of the rope with the bottom of the bottle and slowly curl it around the bottle. If there are gaps in between the layers of rope, just push the rope down the continue winding.
When you reach the end of the bottle, snip off the excess wire. Add some glue to the end of the wire so it doesn’t fray.
Optional: stick in some flowers! Or you can paste some shells onto the rope- ropes look very good as part of a nautical theme 🙂
