Do you dress the way you feel?

All my life, I’d always been rather bohemian. My childhood was filled with lace flared pants, embroidered knapsacks, fringe boots… you name it! Looking back, I think I was rather fashion forward in the style stakes. Then came my “fat years.” I had problems at home, comfort ate, put on weight, and lost the confidence to dress the way I liked, instead opting for “fade into the background” blah outfits. Fast forward my misery years… Today, I am still not the weight I used to be, but have finally grown (more) comfortable with it, and am back to unleashing my inner boho babe, which I am channelling with this no sew clutch bag DIY πŸ™‚ Hope you like it as much as I do!

What you need

Old clear file with a click-button fastening (you can sort of see it under the glue gun mat)

Glue- I used a glue gun because it’s very strong

Ribbon

Feather trim

Rhinestone applique

Optional:

Fraycheck

Rotary punch & pliers

Gold chain (if you want a bag with a strap vs a clutch)

Flat wooden beads, studs & rhinestones

Step 1 (Optional)

If you want a clutch, skip this. If you like a handle, use a rotary punch to make a hole at each corner of the old file. Whilst you are doing this, switch on your glue gun so that the glue is heating up.

Step 2

Now that your glue gun is ready to be used, apply one row of glue onto the top of the old file then quickly place the ribbon onto it and press firmly down.

Don’t apply too much glue at once as it dries fast!

Once you’re done with the top of the ribbon, glue down the bottom of the same ribbon. Then Β move on to ribbon 2, 3…

Step 3

When you’re almost at the bottom of the bag, apply glue to the top of the feather trim and press it firmly below the last row of ribbon.

Step 4

Now apply glue liberally to your rhinestone appliquΓ© and press it firmly to the middle of the ribbons.

The bag looks great don’t you think? Even up close you totally can’t tell it’s a no sew project πŸ™‚ You can stop now or if you’re tired OR you can add more texture!

Another optional step:

Apply fray check to each end of the ribbons if they fray easily!

Step 5

If you like more bling, glue the wooden beads over the last row of ribbon and feather trim, then glue the studs and rhinestones onto the wooden beads.

Step 6- only if you don’t want a clutch

Use the pliers to open the gold chain and link it through the hole made with the rotary punch. Do the same for the other end of the chain & the other hole.

Ta-dah! What do you think of my new grocery bag? Yup I made this to bring it to the supermarket! I may shop at Tesco, but I can do it in style πŸ™‚

PS if you are a conscientious crafter- unlike me- you may want to glue some ribbon/ felt onto the back of the file as well so both sides look equally pretty πŸ™‚ For me, I’m capitalising on the fact that I’ll only be looking/ showing off the front! πŸ™‚ Plus it’s only going to the supermarket after all πŸ™‚

What a fun idea! Unfortunately there’s basically no trim available anywhere local, so I’ll have to Pin to save the idea for later. =)
